Gate Valve Body Casting
What is a gate valve?
The gate valve is one of the important pipe fittings in the pipeline for conveying fluid medium. The gate valve is mainly used to cut off the medium. It can only be fully opened or fully opened, and cannot be used to adjust the flow. Its opening and closing part is a gate, and the movement direction of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. The gate has two sealing surfaces. When the gate valve is closed, it can only rely on the medium pressure to press the sealing surface of the gate to the other side. The valve seat is used to achieve sealing, that is, self-sealing. Most of the gate valve is forced sealing, that is to say, when the valve is closed, the external force of the medium needs to be used to force the gate plate to the valve seat, so as to ensure the sealing surface sealing.

What are Gate Valve Body Castings?
The valve body is a critical component: it withstands the pressures present in the piping system and contains the moving parts that come into contact with the fluid. Bodies can be manufactured in cast or forged steel in a variety of shapes, designs and material grades, and we can also customize to suit your needs.

How to choose the material of the gate valve body?
In the oil and gas industry, where most sites have high temperature and high pressure requirements, the most commonly used materials for casting bodies are ASTM A216 and ASTM A105. For low temperature service, ASTM A352 LCB/LCB is commonly used for cast bodies and ASTM A350 LF2/LF3 is commonly used for wrought bodies.
As temperature, pressure or corrosion increases, stainless steel becomes the best choice: generally use ASTM A351 CF8 (SS304) and CF8M (SS316) for casting equipment, ASTM A182 Fxx (F304, F316, F321, F347) for forging equipment .
For specific applications, special material grades with increased corrosion resistance are required, such as super austenitic stainless steel (SMO 254), duplex and super duplex steels (F44, F51, F53, F55) and nickel alloys (Inconel, Incoloy , Hastelloy ), etc.
For marine applications, non-ferrous materials or alloys are optional choices such as Monel, Cupronickel, Aluminum Bronze and other alloys combining Nickel, Copper, Aluminum. Cast iron bodies are the least expensive type and are used for water distribution (low pressure applications).
Casting process of gate valve body:
American standard gate valve pressure parts are casted by precision casting process. The advantages of precision casting castings are less risers, good density of stainless steel castings, high yield, less cleaning workload in the subsequent sequence, reasonable casting structure, through the riser and chilled iron, A reasonable temperature gradient is formed, and American standard gate valve castings are close to free shrinkage, and crack defects are not easy to occur.

Advantages of gate valves:
The opening and closing part of the American standard gate valve is the gate, and the movement direction of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. The gate valve can only be fully opened and fully closed. The gate valve has small fluid resistance, and the sealing surface is less brushed and eroded by the medium. Opening and closing is less labor-saving. The flow direction of the medium is not restricted, without disturbing the flow and reducing the pressure. It has the advantages of simple shape, short structure length, good manufacturing process, and wide application range.
