Pressure seal bonnet gate valve feature a pressure-tight bonnet designed to improve bonnet sealing performance as pressure increases. These valves are an excellent choice for high temperature and high pressure applications, such as steam applications, as the higher the pressure, the better the sealing properties.

Pressure-tight gate valves are used for high pressure service, typically above 100 bar. The unique feature of pressure-tight bonnets is that the tightness of the body-bonnet joint improves as the internal pressure of the valve increases.


Main applications are: petrochemical, steam circuit, boiler cycle, oil and gas application, power station

Common media types are: steam, condensate, boiler feed water

Typical pressure ratings for valves are 900, 1500 and 2500 psi.


The higher the internal pressure, the greater the sealing force. It can be easily removed by placing the hood assembly into the body cavity and pushing out the four-section thrust ring with a push pin.


Relying on fairly simple design principles, pressure seal valves have proven their ability to handle increasingly demanding fossil and combined cycle steam isolation applications as designers continue to push the pressure/temperature range of boilers and piping systems. Pressure-tight valves typically range in size from 2 inches to 24 inches, although some manufacturers can accommodate the need for larger diameters and higher ratings for special applications.


Pressure seal bonnet gate valve are available in a variety of material qualities such as A105 forged and Gr.WCB cast, alloy F22 forged and Gr.WC9 cast; F11 forged and Gr.WC6 cast, austenitic stainless steel F316 forged and Gr.CF8M cast; for over 500 °C, F316H forged and suitable austenitic cast grades.


Pressure seal design concepts date back to the mid 1900's when, in the face of increasing pressures and temperatures (mainly in power applications), valve manufacturers began to design alternatives to the traditional bolt-on bonnet method to seal the valve body/valve Cover connector. In addition to providing a higher level of pressure boundary seal integrity, many pressure seal valve designs weigh significantly less than their bolt-bonnet valve counterparts.
