Solid Wedge Gate Valve
Wedge gate valves differ from parallel gate valves in that the closures are wedge shaped rather than parallel. The purpose of the wedge is to introduce a high auxiliary seat load so that the wedge gate valve can seal not only high fluid pressures but also low fluid pressures. Therefore, the seat tightness that can be achieved by a wedge gate valve may be higher than that of a conventional parallel gate valve.
Types of cut-off wedges (gates)

The solid wedge type gate valve is the most commonly used type of gate valve. The wedge is a single piece construction machined to match the body seat in order to provide a tight sealing action.
Solid (rigid) wedge gate valve
The shut-off element of a gate valve is wedge-shaped and usually consists of two plates connected together. The solid wedge type gate valve is the most commonly used type of gate valve. The wedge is a single piece construction machined to match the body seat in order to provide a tight sealing action.It can be a solid or hollow structure. The advantage of this design is simplicity and robustness, but body deformation due to thermal and piping stress may dislodge or plug the metal sealing wedge, making it more prone to leaks. The valve with solid wedge can be installed in any position and it is suitable for almost all fluids. It can also be used for turbulent flow.

If two wedge plates are firmly connected (welded), they are completely rigid, this is called a solid wedge. The sides of the wedge and its "counterpart" in the body, the body seat, must be machined very precisely and flatly to ensure a reliable sealing of the gate to the medium.
For small gate valves up to DN 40 and very large gate valves, rigid wedges are usually made from one piece (forging material, casting). Especially in the case of larger nominal diameters, it is very heavy or difficult to move and is therefore correspondingly expensive.
Solid wedge gate valve can be divided into rising stem gate valve and non-rising stem gate valve.
