Full Bore Gate Valve

Full-bore gate valve has a low flow resistance (high flow coefficient), which is roughly the same as a straight pipe section. This means that a full-bore gate valve causes very little pressure drop across the valve.

In the pipeline system, most valves are designed with an internal flow channel or area smaller than the inner diameter of the pipeline, and their flow is limited to a certain range. On the other hand, some gate or ball or butterfly valves can be designed with internal flow passages of sufficient size to allow flow through without significant restriction. This type of valve is called a full-bore valve because its internal flow equals the full area of the inlet. Full-bore valves are primarily used in on-off and off-circuit conditions, such as full-bore gate valves, where fluid must be stopped or specialised. Since the gate valve is full bore, the pipe diameter is the same as the gate diameter. The advantage of this full bore design is very low head loss, which saves energy and total cost of ownership.

It is often difficult for valves larger than DN50 to be necked, so they are generally made of diameter. The full-bore valve has the advantages of small pressure loss, etc. It can also be considered in some stations or devices to reduce the pressure drop of the medium in the pipeline.
